Happy Summer!

Today is the first day of summer here in Iceland. I know, it is really weird to have the first day of summer this early in this part of the world, but hey, I don’t make the rules 😉 It is not very nice out there so I am not sure if me and the girls will be going out much today, but I do have a craving for going out for a short drive and maybe buy some ice cream or something. We will see what the day brings.

My friend Brenda sent me a package with fabrics and floss this week (I stitch for her in return and make her biscornus etc.) and this is what I got:

Stash From Brenda

WDW threads – White Lightning, Whiskey and Turkish Red
GAST threads – Copper, Buttercrunch and Sweet Petunia
32ct Belfast – Raw, Cafe Mocha and Country Mocha
Thanks Brenda, I love everything you send!

And here is my progress on ‘Quaker Christmas’ I absolutely love this piece! Here is my earlier update with the info about what threads/fabric I am using etc.

Quaker Christmas

I got sent my partner for the Pinkeep Exchange in my Icelandic stitching group and I have narrowed my choises down to two charts. Now I just need to decide which one to stitch and pick out some lovely threads and fabric. I have almost decided on the fabric, but I am still trying to decide what thread to use. I am leaning towards a beautiful silk from Vikky Clayton I just need to pull it out and see how it goes with the fabric I have in mind! Oh, I love picking threads and fabric for a new project!

ATTN! Judy and Barbie – I sent out your prizes yesterday. Please let me know when you get them!

Faith – Finish!

I just got back home from another stitching night with my Icelandic stitching group. Thanks for the evening ladies, I had loads of fun!
I finished this while I was there, started it on Saturday evening.

Little House Needleworks - Faith

Little House Needleworks – Faith
28ct Gingham Natural/Cream Linen
Crescent Color threads

I really like how it turned out on this fabric. I wasn’t so sure about it when I started, but the more I stitched and the more colors I added the more I liked it. Well, it is getting late and I have to get up in the morning so I am heading to bed!

Spring Spell Whimzi Finish.

Last night I went to a stitching night at my friends Rósa’s house. It was wonderful to meet the girls and I even saw two new faces! My stitching group, Allt í Kross, is a Yahoo group for Icelandic people interested in stitching. I do not accept foreign members, not because I don’t want to, but because I want to keep the group as it is, for Icelanders only. Not everyone is comfortable in writing in English and there are so many other groups out there for people who can and do speak English. It is nothing personal, believe me 🙂
Many of the members do quilting, crochet, scrap booking, knitting, and other crafts also, but the main focus of the group is stitching. All crafts are welcome though 🙂 We currently have 62 members that are all over Iceland, in Norway, Denmark and the US. The only things we have in common is that we are Icelandic and we like stitching 🙂 I love my group, it is such a friendly place and you can always turn to them for advise being stitching related or personal. I have gained so many good friends from it I don’t even know where to begin.

Back to last night. I took two projects with me and ended up starting and finishing up this little cutie!

And I just had to get a close up of this cute little chick! Isn’t he adorable?

Now I want to get the rest of the seasons done. It was a fast and enjoyable stitch. Oh, speaking of Just Nan… I just got Barnabee’s Bride in the mail on Wednesday! It is so beautiful and I can’t wait to start stitching it! Aiste and Guðbjörg from my stitching group also got one each so we are probably going to meet up for an evening/a weekend and stitch and finish it up together. I can’t wait!

Second Prize

Thank you all SO MUCH for the incredible reaction to my little drawing! Since there are SO many participants, I decided to add another prize to make things more fun. I made a cute little Bee Biscornu and this will be the other prize for the drawing. So there will be two winners!

Front: Bee Biscornu Front
Back: Bee Biscornu Back
Bee Biscornu Freebie
32ct Ice Blue Lugana
WDW Threads

The only way to enter is to comment on my previous post (direct link). The more the merrier! My daughter is feeling a little better but is not 100% yet. She got Scarlett Fever so she will have to take it easy over the weekend. Yeah, try telling that to a two and a half year old! LOL!

Thank you ALL for visiting my blog. I love to see that my visitors are from all over the world! Keep coming back and enjoy! I am off to my friend Rósa’s house for a stitching night! I plan on working on ‘Quaker Christmas’ if I am not to tired.

Win a Pinkeep.

Since Spring is slowly but surely showing it’s face around, I decided to have a drawing here on my blog.
All you have to do is comment on this post with your name (and be sure to fill out the field with your e-mail addy so that if you don’t have a blog, I can contact you) and you will be put in the draw. I will have my daughter draw from the list of names on Monday April 21st so that leaves you a week to enter. There are no obligations! If your name is drawn, you will win this pinkeep, made by me. It is something I started and finished today while staying home with a very well behaved sick baby.

Pattern: Buzzzz by Bent Creek
Threads: GAST, WDW and DMC
Buttons: from my stash
Fabric: 32ct Ice Blue Lugana
The fabric in the background is the backing fabric

Anyone can enter, you don’t have to be a stitcher and there are no obligations. This is only for fun 🙂 Maybe I will add something to the prize, who knows! Anyway, comment if you want to enter!

Schoolgirl Lessons Finished!

I finished this one last night while watching Juno with my cousin Bjarki. If you haven’t seen Juno, it is worth seeing. I also watched Persepolis on Saturday and it was absolutely amazing! You should all watch it as soon as you can!

Schoolgirl Lessons - Finished

Pattern by Little House Needleworks
Fabric: Lakeside Linen 32ct Basketweave
Thread: NN #129 2 over 2

This was a really fun and fast stitch. I am pretty sure I will stitch this pattern again some day! Now I need to find a pattern for the Pinkeep exchange that is happening in my Icelandic Cross Stitch Group. I have some ideas, I just need to find the perfect pattern & fabric & threads!

New WIP and a cute little finish.

Since I have been working like a crazy woman lately, I decided I needed something fun to stitch. I have always wanted to stitch a childhood friend of mine, Barbapapa, on some piece of clothing for myself. He is cute, pink, adorable and I have been a fan as long as I can remember. I think I am about one and a half year old in this picture. Barbapapa and Barbamama were painted on a wall at my mothers friend house and I LOVED going there (so says my mom, I am afraid I can’t remember).

Linda and her best friend.

So yes, he has been with me for as long as I can remember. I used to watch him on TV, I used to have loads of books, figurines and all kinds of stuff related to him and his family. Then he was gone. There was no chance to get anything Barbapapa related for years. A couple of years ago, he came back! Woohoo! Now, I have all kinds of Barbapapa related stuff again! But I can always use more! Hence, the stitching on a piece of clothing.
I stitched this using waste canvas on a black long sleeve shirt that I bought for this project. The fabric is very nice and warm so I will be able to use this a lot. I found a picture on-line and charted him up and started stitching. This is the outcome:

The fabric in the shirt has lycra in it so it stretches a lot, but I think he turned out so cute! (Pardon the dust on the shirt, I hadn’t washed it when I took the picture)

I also have a new WIP. I wanted to start a new Little House Needleworks project since I finished Curly Q Ewe the other day. I picked Schoolgirl Lessons as my next LHN project and here is my start as of yesterday.

Schoolgirl Lessons WIP

Pattern: Little House Needleworks – Schoolgirl Lessons
Fabric: 32ct Lakeside Linens Basketweave
Thread: Needle Necessities Inc. #129

My parents came and picked up my girls and took them to the country side. I was going to go to work, but decided to stay home and clean my house a little and do laundry and stitch. Sumarrós’s friend is coming over to spend the night so it should be a fun evening. I decided to enjoy the quiet time while it lasted and not spend it at work 😉 I am off to hang laundry and stitch!

Shamelessly stolen from Anna.

**Habits of the Modern Stitcher**

1. How do you hold your fabric? In my left hand, or in my Q-snap
2. Floss licker? Oh yes. If I go missing, there will be plenty of DNA in my stitching projects.
3. How do you thread your needle? I lick my floss, squeese the ends between my fingers and thread the needle.
4. What needle do you like best? Piecemakers!
5. Are you a needle loser? Yes!
6. What fabric do you prefer to stitch on? Linen. The higher the count the better.
7. Bobbins or floss bags? Bobbins for DMC, tiny zip locks for the rest.
8. Are you a scissors collector? Oh yes! And my collection has grown since this picture was taken.
9. Do you do your own framing, and if so, do you lace or pin?
I have framed a couple of pieces yes, and I lace.
10. Are you a floss floozy?
11. Silk?
Gimme gimme gimme!
12. Railroader?
Sometimes, but just the top leg of my stitch.
13. Are you a pattern or designer snob?
Nope. I stitch what I like.
14. Do you get antsy when you give someone a stitched gift?
I used to, not anymore.
15. Have you reached S.A.B.L.E.?
No way! I am not even 30 yet!
16. Do you wash your projects?
Some of them.

I have one finish, and one new start to show you. I have just been working so much (I worked for about 13 hours yesterday) that I haven’t had any time to take pictures and blog about the whole thing. I will soon, promise!

Eeyore bear

Today I went to my little nephew’s Christening. He was given the name Ólafur Frosti. The little family was very happy and they all glowed in the beautiful light in the church.

Elva, Ólafur Frosti og Kristján

I stitched a little something for him as a part of his gift. My mothers sister Berglind gave me some DMC bears with stitchable bibs on them so I decided to stitch Eeyore on one of them and give it as a part of the gift. I like doing baby themed stuff sometimes. It is a nice change from everything else. It only took me about 2-3 hours to stitch.
Here is a close up:

Eeyore on a bear

And here is a picture that I really love. The light was so beautiful today in my apartment and Karítas wanted to model with the bear. I love how this one came out, she looks so ‘soft’.

I hope you all had a great Sunday 🙂

Biscornu and a pillow.

First, let me share with you a biscornu that I finished late Thursday evening. So late that I couldn’t take a decent picture as it had been dark for a couple of hours already. So I took a new picture today in the sunlight.

Biscornu for Brenda

Fabric: 28ct black Jobelan
Thread: WDW Blue Topaz
Mill Hill beads #03047
Pattern: Freebie from ‘My Aunts Attic’

Today I spent making my very first pillow. It has a quilted (very simple) edge and it is FAR from being perfect but I am actually happy with it. As always with first attempts of everything I learned a whole lot and am sure that my next attempt (if I ever attempt this again, me and sewing machines are not friend) will be a whole lot better. But here it is, in all it’s unperfect glory 🙂

Curly Q Ewe Pillow

Right now, Guðbjörg just walked in the door, and I am going to teach her how to make a pinkeep. Have a great weekend!

Curly Q Ewe

My friend Amanda sent me the CC floss I needed to finish up this piece by Little House Needleworks. There are plenty of errors in my piece, but I choose to call them ‘Creative Freedom’. It turned out nice enough despite my errors and I am very happy with this piece! She is supposed to have a green belt, but somehow I managed to miss that and didn’t stitch it so the rest of her was always 1 stitch off. But I just worked around it since I didn’t see the error until I was almost done with the skirt and I sure didn’t want to frog the whole thing!
