A nice weekend away

Me and a part of my stitching group (Rósa, Erla, Guðbjörg, Aiste and her daughter Amelía) went away to a cabin in the country for the weekend. We left on Friday after work, and after a short stop at a grocery store to get supplies we drove out of town. Like always, as soon as we got there we started stitching/knitting.

Guðbjörg, Rósa, Erla Björk and Amelía

On Saturday Rósa made us a wonderful meal of chicken and vegetables, baked in the oven topped with cheese and rice, salad and bread, washed down with some white wine. Thank you Rósa for a wonderful meal!

Delicious food made by Rósa

The youngest of the group, Amelía (8 months old) was a complete angel the entire weekend and we played a little.

Amelía and me

Aiste (her mother) finished a wool west, her second ever knitting project. Rósa finished socks and learned how to knit two things at the same time using a long circular needle and the magic loop method. Guðbjörg finished a hat. Erla got her advent calendar done and did some of the ornaments to hang on it (you can see pictures of it on her blog). I did half of my bolero and started Necessities Sampler by Little House Needleworks. I am changing the colour scheme from blues to reds. I also knitted a little on the baby kimono (Ravelry Link) I am doing for a charity project.

My stuff

Thank you my wonderful friends for a great, great weekend! You have no idea how much they, and YOU, mean to me! More Pictures from the trip can be found on my flickr account.

Finishing Camp – Results!

Friday night was thankfully just a slow low key night. I wasn’t feeling well because of the antibiotics and I also still had a slight fever. It was just me, Rósa and Guðbjörg that night and we just sat and stitched and talked. It was very nice. Oh, Lára and Sveina turned up late that night but didn’t stay long.

On Saturday I had a lot of guests coming. Me, Rósa, Guðbjörg, Sissú, Lára, Munda, Magnea, Anna Rósa, Aisté, Una, Erla Björk (and maybe I am forgetting someone) were all here at some point of the day and there were seven of us here for dinner. I was feeling lots better than the day before so I did get a lot of finishing done. I did finishing for myself and helped those that needed helping. It was great having all these ladies here sharing the joy of stitching and finishing, all helping each other out and learning from one another.

I am going to share with you pictures of the finishing I did for myself, for Brenda (who sent me the pieces a while ago) and a birthday present that I did for my friend Tracy.

Finishing for myself out of pieces that were stitched by me:

These are all for me except the bourse, it is for my good friend Tracy who saw the bourse I did for Brenda and fell in love with it and wanted one. So, it is her birthday next weekend so off course she is getting one!

Beads on the bottom

I loved how this bookmark turned out. I thought it needed a little something to it once I had stitched it together, so I added some beads to the bottom of it. I hope Brenda will like it, I know she loves to read almost as much as she loves stitching 🙂

Phew. So that’s it!
I hope everyone learned a lot this weekend and that people are now not afraid of trying new things and just go for it! I am thinking about having one of these weekends again in a couple of months. So if you want to come, you better start saving up! 🙂
I hope you all had a great weekend. I am off to bed!

Also, it is my dad’s 54th birthday today! Happy Birthday daddy! Love you!

Blog stats

As I write this, the visits to my blog have reached this number:

Stats

I have 3,691 comments. Commenter number 4000 will get a prize from me.
I will let you know again when it gets closer to the number. I am thinking of updating the number of comments about once a week or so so that you can be updated. So you will not miss it, I promise 🙂

This week has been a week of visiting doctors. Sumarrós went to the doctor on Monday and yesterday because she got glitter in her eye that hurt and had to be removed. I went today because my the UTI that I had been fighting came back and I finally got some antibiotics so I should be feeling better very soon *crossing fingers and stitches*. On top of that I have been fighting a cold and working like crazy. So when I get home I just crash. I have NO energy. But since I got the meds I should be all better before next weekend. Finishing camp at my house, wooohooo!

Thank you all for visiting and commenting. Thanks so much for the sweet comments on the Noel ornament. I sure am happy about it and can’t stop looking at it. Now I am going to crawl to bed and get some rest. Take care everyone!

Thank you

Another ornament finish.

One of the few stitching goals I set myself for this year was to stitch and finish one ornament a month. January passed before I knew it so now I have made two ornaments in February. The Prairie Schooler Santa in the previous post was my January ornament (even though it was stitched and finished in February) and late last night I finished up this little beauty. I am super happy with how it turned out.

Noel Ornament

Pattern: Freebie found here
Fabric: 36ct Edinborough Linen – Cream
Thread: DMC 115
Stitched with one thread over two
Beads: Mill Hill #00557 and 40557

Noel Ornament

There is not much else going on. I had been fighting a UTI earlier this week and today a cold has been trying its best to set in my body. I am not about to let that happen. I have no time to be sick at the moment! So I am doing my very best to keep it at bay.

I did a little more stitching on my Flea Market Souvenir Sampler and will post a picture of it later this week. It is too dark right now to be snapping some photos. And I want to show you the true beautiful colors of the piece. I am on the last part of it now. I can’t wait to assemble it! I think it is going to be a lot of fun!

Another thing. Next weekend I will have my big finishing camp weekend as I mentioned here. So if any of you ladies are going to fly over, you are welcome! Seriously! The more the merrier!

Two new starts!

I hope you are all enjoying the new year. And thank you for the wonderful comments on my last posts! I am very happy about my finishes! I went through some of the unfinished ones yesterday and thought about ways of possible finishing. At least I have some ideas now for some of them, now to just find the time.

I have been discussing the option of a ‘Finishing Weekend’ in my Icelandic stitching group. The idea is that each person brings a finished stitching project and all the supplies needed to do the finishing on it that she has in mind (I will send them a list of what they need for each kind of finishing, at least the basics). And they come here and get the help they need to get their project finished. Off course I do not know every finishing technique in the book, but with the help of the internet and the blogging world I have gotten some great ideas and help in doing my own finishing lately. There are quite a few members in my stitch group that are excited about this idea and so am I so now I just need to find the perfect time for it. This would also inspire me to do some finishing on my own projects. I am thinking about having an open house for a whole weekend so people can just show up whenever and stay for as long as they want. I can even house about 2-3 people if someone is coming from far away and want to have the option of spending the night 🙂

Well. This post was supposed to be about my two new starts, got a little side tracked there! Since I finished two projects I decided to start two new projects. These were both projects that I didn’t need to buy anything for and I had everything in my stash so all is good.

Trousse aux Fleurs Bleues
Design: Trousee aux Fleurs Bleues by C’mon Monde
Fabric: 32ct Off white linen from my stash
Threads: DMC

Come Tarry
Design: Come Tarry by Shepherd’s Bush
Fabric: 32ct Dark Espresso Linen
Threads: Threadgatherer, Soie D’Alger and Gloriana Silk

I am thinking about going to a knitting store today because I want to buy some yarn for this project. I haven’t knitted in a LONG time and I miss it. I often get the urge to knit something in January/February and I love this project. It is so me!

Ornament from Guðbjörg, and another made by me.

Two days ago, my wonderful friend Guðbjörg came over with the ornament she made for me in the ornament exchange in our Icelandic stitching group. She stitched this beautiful Prairie Schooler ornament and it is just gorgeous. The photo does not do it justice since taking pictures these days is really hard because of the constant darkness. We only get about 2-3 hours of daylight these days, and we have loads of snow. So yeah, pictures are a bit dark and heavy, but the beauty is there, promise 🙂

Ornament exchange from Guðbjörg

She also gave me some chocolates. Thank you so much Guðbjörg! I really love my ornament, it is the perfect addition to my slowly growing collection of stitched ornaments.

The last two days I have been working on a little gift for a package exchange at work that took place today. I decided to stitch this fun little snowman ornament and managed to finish it late last night.

Snow - Snjór
Design: Let it Snow by Barbara Ana
Threads: DMC
Fabric: Blue hand dyed opalescent in 28ct from my stash

I translated Snow to Snjór in Icelandic and added a button for the snowflake in the top corner. I am very happy with the outcome and Sigrún, the co worker who got my package, was thrilled with it 🙂

I also want to thank Dovile for the wonderful Christmas card that arrived today!

I think I might be getting sick. I have a stuffy nose and a sore throat and am taking turns in being very hot and very cold. Ugh. I do not have time for this! My sister is graduating next Saturday and then I have to do all my shopping, gift wrapping, cleaning etc. Oh well, Christmas will come no matter what 🙂 I hope you are all feeling good and that you are getting ready for the Holiday, however you choose to spend it 🙂

Ornament Exchange for Fanný Margrét

I just got a word that Fanný got the package that I sent to her last week with the ornament exchange in our Icelandic stitching group ‘Allt í Kross’. I decided to stitch her a small biscornu and make an ornament out of it. When looking through my patterns, this simple but beautiful design jumped at me.

Christmas Biscornu

Design: Holly Berries Mini Biscornu by Cherished Stitches. Featured in JCS Ornament issue 2008.
Fabric: 32ct Vintage Belfast – Country Mocha
Threads: DMC 4045 and 4210
Beads, button and Jingles from my stash

I am trying very hard to finish up some presents but it is not going very well. I completely lost my stitching mojo and I can’t seem to find it again. The only thing I haven’t done to try to find it again is to start something new. I might do just that tonight, and see if the stitching spirit will visit me again. I really really miss stitching and feel just horrible looking at all my stash and not wanting to play with it 😦

What do you do when you just do not feel like stitching? What usually does the trick for you and gets you stitching again?
