Sorting through the WIP cabinet

One of the things that I wanted to do in the new year was to go through both my WIP/UFO cabinet and my yarn stash. Today I went through the WIP/UFO cabinet and did some cleaning and organising. It was not as bad as I thought!

I took photos to show you what I have hidden in there. There is just one WIP that I can’t show you as it is top secret until it is done. But here goes, I am airing my whole WIP/UFO collection here.

2014-01-11 16.22.01
Here is the cabinet before I organised everything. And my notebook and some zip lock bags for some of the projects.

2014-01-11 16.23.42
All the bags are out and on the floor. What is in them? I had some idea, but wasn’t sure of all of it.

2014-01-11 16.24.33
Bjarki’s lopapeysa that I made for him needs some mending under the arms and I need to sew the zipper better as it has loosened with all the use it has gotten. This one did not go back into the cabinet as I am going to repair it tonight so that I can give it back to Bjarki next time he comes over.

2014-01-11 16.27.38

2014-01-11 16.30.28
The bed spread I am crocheting for our bed! It hasn’t gotten much attention lately, mainly because of my very secret WIP, but as soon as that is done, I imagine this will be my next focus piece. So neatly folded with all of the yarn, back into the cabinet it went to be ready for my attention.

2014-01-11 16.33.42
A crochet shawl. This is in fact not my project, Helgi is making it! I love the colours and the green is dyed by me. It went into it’s own project bag and back into the cabinet so that Helgi can grab it when he feels like it.

2014-01-11 16.54.45
Now, this one is almost done. Just the finishing touches left. But, it also needs a partner that is smaller and has a different colour where the purple one is. It is very high on my priority list to get these finished a.s.a.p.

2014-01-11 16.58.01
Various stuff for some yarn graffiti.

2014-01-11 16.59.39
Crochet curtains for a pub. Need to know if I should finish these or not.

2014-01-11 17.05.10
One sock for Karítas that I did ages ago, too small now so I am either making the other one and giving it to someone, or frogging it or using the yarn for something else, like socks in the right size for her!

2014-01-11 17.05.54
The start of a shawl. Frogged as I want to use the yarn for something else.

2014-01-11 17.06.26
One sock for myself. Need and want to finish the other one, just have been suffering from ‘second sock syndrome’ since I finished the first one.

2014-01-11 17.11.51
A cabled bag that I really want to finish, but I need to buy more yarn for it!

2014-01-11 17.14.32
BSJ that I started, then the cat got a hold of it and I couldn’t figure out how much had frogged so I frogged the whole thing and will use the yarn for something else.

I thought that there would be way more in there! And I am very happy that I just frogged the items that I knew I would never ever finish anyway. I put everything in their separate bags or zip locks, depending on the size of the projects and the amount of yarn, and put them in back into the cabinet so that I can grab them easily whenever I feel like working on them.
None of these projects are something that I need to finish very soon, except for the knitted sweaters that I was hoping on finishing before Christmas, but off course things got busy and I just couldn’t.

2014-01-11 17.35.20
Then I put my yarn into my yarn cabinet that you can see here. Now, I kind of need to go through it and organise it better. I will do that soon, maybe even tomorrow if I have the time.

Bit’s & Pieces and Birthday – October 7th

Such busy days. Work is absolutely crazy as summer is high season so the months following are super busy as we try to get everything done that we did not get done over the summer, work through everything that did not get sorted while we were on vacation, and prepare for the end of the year so that we can do inventory and financial statements. Phew. Busy!

2012 – Finishes

Another year has ended. So weird how time speeds up year after year. Will a year feel like a week when I am 80?
It was over all a very good, but very busy year for me. New job, new challenges, new friends, new appreciations, new food, new goals. And off course, new knitting/crochet finishes. I do not have a single stitching finish though. Oh how the time change.

Knitting finishes:
Olearia by Georgie Hallam
Kalajoki by Tiina Seppälä
Cardigan for Valdi
Órói by Védís Jónsdóttir from Lopi #27
June Bunnies by Inese Andzane

Crochet finishes:
Various pieces for the Statue Yarnstorming
My Gay Pride piece.
Various pieces for the Yarn Bus.
A boob for Breast Cancer Awareness.

And a whoooooooole lot of organizing and brainstorming and other much smaller knitting or crochet projects that have not yet been published in their future form. I have some big ideas for this year, so stay tuned 🙂

Happy Holidays everyone! ⛄❄

Happy new year to you and yours. Thanks for reading in 2012 and I hope you will continue to visit in 2013.

2011 – Finishes

Happy New Year! I can’t believe another year is here. 2011 was in many ways a very good year and in other ways a pretty crappy one for me. Probably the biggest roller coaster year ever for me. It ended well though and 2012 started out well too so here is hoping for a good one!

2010 in knitting and stitching

I always like to end my year to look back and go over the crafts I have done over the past 12 months. This year was a new low in stitching for me, but a record year in knitting. I will start with the stitching. I only stitched two projects this year!

Stitching projects 2010

1) Pattern: ‘Heart Stitcher’ freebie from A mon ami Pierre – finished as a pinkeep
2) Pattern: Snow Faces by Just Nan – finished as an ornament

Knitting projects 2010

1) Design: 18 Var – from Lopi 29, by Védís Jónsdóttir
2) Pattern: Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmermann
3) Lopapeysa for my daughter Sumarrós – design is a mix of various Lopi designs
4) Pattern: Henri the Knitted Bear by Rachel Borello
5) Pattern: Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West
6) Pattern: Odessa by Grumperina
7) Pattern: Lacy Baktus by Terhi Montonen
8) Pattern: mixed and matched 3 different designs to make this dress for a friends sister
9) Pattern: Hlekkur from Lopi 28
10) Pattern: Dressy sweater by Pickles
11) Pattern: The Age of Brass and Steam Kerchief by OrangeFlower
12) Dressy Sweater – Mini version for Sumarrós
13) Lopapeysa for Inga Rún: Design is a mix and match of a couple of designs that I matched to her liking.
14) Pattern: #22 Cape by Lana Grossa
15) Pattern: Jacket in ”Alpaca” and ”Glitter” with 2-colour pattern in raglan by DROPS design
16) Pattern: Bring It On Baby Blanket by Anna & Heidi Pickles
17) Pattern: Haruni by Emily Ross
18) Pattern: Citron by Hilary Smith Callis – no photos yet as I did not manage to photograph it before giving it away.
19) Black Hoodie out of Lopi for a friend – no photos and now the sweater is ruined 😦
20) 3 preemie hats for the premature ward at the national hospital. A charity project.

So yeah. All in all a pretty decent year in finishes! I am not counting the projects that I have started and not finished. I am not going to drag myself down because of those haha. I am going to try and be a good girl next year and stitch and knit, and use up some of my stash! I am bringing both a knitting and a stitching project to my parents house tonight as we say goodbye to 2010 and welcome 2011. I have a great feeling about the coming year. I have always liked odd numbers 🙂

Me and the girls would like to wish you and your family a wonderful new year. May all your dreams come true.

Christmas Ornament Exchange

I stitched! Can you believe it? And I really enjoyed it! Like, really, REALLY enjoyed it!
I organized a christmas ornament exchange in my stitching group like I do every year and decided to take part in it myself, just to challenge myself to some stitching. I honestly thought that I would maybe not enjoy it, or even not know how to do it anymore (not really, but still!). I decided on something small, but cute. And this is the outcome.

Snow Faces for Bubba

Fabric: 28ct Reflections from Silkweaver
Pattern: Snow Faces by Just Nan
Threads: DMC
Beads: Mill Hill

Cute isn’t it?

I have spent some time going through my blog the past few days. Man, I have really done a lot of stitching. And most of it is pretty damn amazing even if I do say so myself. I miss it. I figured that out while knitting this little thing. So, I am going to stitch at least a little each week (maybe just for a day or something) in 2011. I have SO MUCH STASH! It is heartbreaking to just watch it collect dust in my stash cabinet. I realize that I have to go through it and sort out what I know I will never stitch, but I haven’t had the time or the heart to do so as of yet. I will though, but only after I figure out more about what I want to finish and what not. I looked over this list that I made in September 2008 and most of these projects are still something I want to do. Do you have a project on that list and would fancy a SAL? We could dedicate one day a week to it and post pictures and encourage each other on. Please let me know, I know I need some encouragement at least!

I am not giving up on knitting at all, I would just like to do some stitching also! I really, really do miss it!

2009 Project list

This was probably the worst stitching year since I started stitching! LOL! That is both good and bad. Bad because, well, I wanted to get more done, but good because I also did some knitting, and I did so much else that was absolutely fabulous. And like they say, you can’t do everything, a girl has to pick and choose! So, without further introduction, here are two lists, one for stitching and the other for knitting.

1) Spiral Lbre – freebie in pink
2) Spiral Lbre – freebie in green

7) Set of smalls in orange for my dad’s sister – Various freebie designs

9) Purple Set of Smalls – Various Freebie Designs
10) Small Token – Blackbird Designs
11) Red Set of Smalls for Svala – Various freebie designs
12) Purple set of smalls for Birgitta – Various freebie designs

Knitting 2009

1) Ebony Cape – Design by Helga Isager
2) Gryffindor Scarf – Design by me
3) Frost – Design by Védís Jónsdóttir
4) Knúpur – Design Védís Jónsdóttir
5) Cheers – Design by Cheryl Niamath
6) Lopi 156 – Design Álafoss

7) Neckwarmer for Fanney – Design Susan Chang

I am not making any stitching or knitting resolutions for the new year. There is only one thing I am going to follow: ENJOY WHAT I AM DOING!

May the year 2010 bring you and your family joy and love in every aspect of your life. Thank you for the friendship in 2009.

Looking back on this list, I am happy to see how many pieces I have actually done the finishing on. I didn’t realise this until now when I sat down and made the time to make this list. So I am quite happy with last years stitching, even though the last 2 months or so have been rather slow in the stitching department.

As for goals for 2009, there are few.

  1. Stay on the wagon!
  2. Stitch form my stash!
  3. Do more finishing!
  4. Start a HEAD piece!
  5. Do one ornament each month!

I think that’s it. I am also going to be a little selfish when it comes to my stitching. I am going to take part in some exchanges, do some random draws on my blog, send out some goodies to stitching friends and stuff, but on the whole I want to make the year 2009 a little more about me 🙂

Last but not least. Thank you all for visithing, for your sweet comments, support, e-mails, gifts, cards etc. Your friendship means so much to me! Thank you, from the botton of my heart!

And another one!

I was so inspired by my finish, that I hurried up and finished the last of the Little Women Thread Packs from LHN. I sure didn’t have much left to stitch on the last one ‘Baking’ but I have been neglecting it like most of my stitching. So I decided to hurry up and get it over with! So now I have all of the designs in the series completed. YAY! Oh, and I decided to make it my new header as well 🙂

Merry Christmas – Gleðileg jól

Merry Christmas to all my blog readers! I have gotten Christmas cards from several of you and would like to thank you for taking the time to send me a card. Unfortunately my funds didn’t allow for me to send out holiday cards this year.

Me and the girls have had a great time together this Christmas. We have eaten a lot, spent time with the family and friends, relaxed, watched movies, played with the new toys etc. It has been great! I have even managed to stitch a little! I am almost done with the Little Women series and also started a cute freebie that I hope to have finished very soon. Now I have to work tomorrow and the day after and then it is back to two days off. Oh so nice! We really need it since we have a lot of work waiting for us in the new year.

Here is a cute picture of my daughters, Karítas and Sumarrós that my friend Aisté printed on canvas and put on a frame and gave me for Christmas. I thought it might bring you a little joy as it did for me 🙂 I hope you have all had a great time this Holiday season and whatever you are celebrating that you got to spend time with the people that you love the most.

Reading – Finish!

Here I am! I have been so busy at work and with school activities, foot ball etc for my daughters that I haven’t stitched much lately. The only thing I have been working on is this, my newest finish.

Little Women Thread Pack from LHN – Reading
Fabric: 32ct Antique Lace from Lakeside Linens
Threads: CC as charted except I substituted Blue Moon instead of Vintage Violet as I wanted a more blue color for the words, dress etc.

Quiliting, Gardening and Reading
Quilting – Gardening – Reading

So, there are three down, only one more of these to go! They are a super fun stitch and fast too!

I have also been working on my Christmas stocking but it is slow going. I am getting a little bored with it. Only a month left until Christmas so I better get back to it! I think I am going to start the last of the Little Women thread packs ‘Baking’ and work on my stocking in between. Something like one night on Baking and one on the stocking. A little rotation. I think it will help me to get both done soon-ish.

Next weekend I will be in London with the company I work for. It is a Christmas celebration for us and I am very excited to go! Since I do not have a significant other, I was allowed to bring a guest and I asked my cousin Bjarki to come with me. We always have so much fun anyway, and he is my best friend so I am sure it will be great!

Quilting – Happy Dance

SAT Friday and a new start!

I really enjoyed this SAT Friday over at the Let’s Stitch blog and got a lot done on my stocking. I am again hopeful that I will have it done before Christmas. I had kind of lost all hope and was getting pretty bored with the piece, so many quarter stitches and confetti stitches and gaaaaah! It was just driving me crazy! Then I thought ‘One stitch at a time. One stitch at a time’ and it got easier again. So here are my results!

Stitchers Stocking Before&After
Stitcher’s Studio Christmas Stocking from Cross Stitch & Country Crafts magazine, Issue July/August 1989

I also started a project from my box of projects. It is the ‘Little Woman’ series of thread packs from Little House Needleworks. I started ‘Quilting’ last Monday and have been working on it on and off since then. The others in the series are Reading, Gardening and Baking. You can see a picture of them here (scroll down a bit). Anyway, here is my progress on this project also:

Little Women - Quilting
Little Women series from LHN ‘Quilting’
Threads: CCC
Fabric: 32ct Attic Lace from Lakeside Linens

So that is all my progress this week. I am thinking about if the new challenge for the Let’s Stitch blog will be a good excuse to start something new. LOL! I was thinking about something small, maybe something for Christmas. I am going to think about it at least 🙂

Trying to go through some stuff – Inspired by Becky

After seeing this post from Becky, I made a decision that I had been thinking about for a while. I went through some of my stash and pulled out some projects that I really love and would like to start working on and hopefully finish sooner than later. I have so much stash and I also decided that the year 2009 will be a ‘Stitch from your Stash year’ for me. At least the first 6 months or so. Then we will see how I am doing and continue from there. To me that means no purchasing new charts and projects. I will continue in my FOTM club and I will be allowed to buy threads or other things needed to finish a project that I already have. Thankfully I have a ton that is kitted up, or very close to being so. I pulled all of these projects out last night and put them in a box.

My box of projects

Off course there are many many many (reads as endless) other projects that I want to get finished. I am quite happy with this selection of mine. It has a nice variety of patterns and finishing techniques so I should definitely not get bored! And then there are the WIP’s and UFO’s. I realized I don’t have many UFO’s, but I sure have a lot of WIP’s that I want to get done. My focus piece is my Stitcher’s Stocking because I really want to have it done for Christmas this year so that I can hang up my stocking with my girls stockings. Sumarrós even asked me the other day if I wasn’t going to ‘Hurry up and finish the thing’ LOL! Love that kid!

So, do you believe I can do it? Go on a stash diet and stitch from my stash? I really need your support in this. Only about 3 months to go! Eeeeek!

Kudos to Becky for the idea and for breaking the ice!
