Halfway through March already

And I have not been as good about blogging as I had hoped. I will do more of it, my goal is to do it 1-2 times a week as I want to keep a good track of my projects. Keeping this blog and photographing and updating the process of my projects has been one of my biggest motivations since I started it, so I want to keep that going.

My stitching group is finally meeting again. We are trying our best to have get togethers once a month, and every Tuesday is a WIP/UFO day where we all work on a project that we already have going and try to put a few strands in.
I decided to work on my stocking as I really want to get it done. Every year when I get out the stockings I did for my daughters, I almost feel ashamed at not having mine done already, there is so little left to do on it, just some backstitching and details. So hopefully, I will have my very own stocking to hang come Christmas this year.

Here is my progress after last Tuesdays session.

Pattern: Parisian Twist Headband Ear Warmer by Elisa McLaughlin
Yarn: Quince and Co. Osprey in Bird S Egg
Needles: 4mm

For Karítas. I made my headband quite some time ago, and Karítas has always loved it. When we were on winter break we went to our LYS and she picked out this beautiful ice blue Osprey by Quince & Co for her very own headband. She absolutely loves it.

We went to a cabin over a weekend in February. It was just what we all needed as a family.

Fun in the sun/snow/cold
We went out and had fun in the snow and went sledding down a hill.

We relaxed.

#scrabble and cozy time at the cabin
We played Scrabble.

Hlemmur and a snow blizzard
We have had about 40 storms this year here in Iceland. I have just about had enough and am craving warmer weather, less wind, more sun. But I know better, it is only March and there are still a few more weeks to go. Next storm is supposed to hit us tonight.

My #bedinburghyarnfest at Litla Prjónabúðin with knitting friends on a stormy Saturday in #iceland
But, when the wind is going mad outside, what is better than meeting up with your friends at your LYS and knitting the day away, having coffee and chocolate? Nothing, if you ask me!

When you have too much #kambgarn, make a BIG #grannysquareblanket using all the #colours
Going through my stash, I noticed that I had A LOT of Kambgarn. The best way to use up a lot of yarn in the same brand and/or weight, is making blankets. One can never have too many blankets so I started another one. I have always wanted a classic Granny Square blanket with lots of colour and black as the colour that binds it all together. That is just what I had in this Kamgbarn stash of mine. So I started one.
I am doing 10 rounds of colour, picking the colours totally at random by drawing them from a bag and not looking and it is not allowed to exchange colours. Each colour only to be used once in each square. Then 2 rounds of black and using Lucy’s Join as you go method to tie it all together. So far I am absolutely loving it!

Bits & Pieces

Once again I have not been updating once a week. Easter came and went and the biological calendar and clock got messed up due to too much chocolate, good food and being way too lazy. I had a good Easter, I hope you did also.

#søstrenegrenes #cotton #yarn such pretty colors!

New #crochet #blanket it is confirmed that I have an obsession.
I have started yet another blanket. Yes, I am fully aware that this is madness, but I like it. This one will be for my little nephew, Adrían. He absolutely loves the blanket I gave to my sister, his mother and takes it away from her all the time. So I decided he definitely needed one of his own.

#cat #love ❤
Kitty cat getting some love.

Cabinet got a fresh coat of paint and a little make over.
This cabinet looked like this before. I was so tired of how boring it looked. I gave it a fresh color and a little make over. Love it now!

Prepping a little yarn graffiti with a stitching twist. Stay tuned for more.

Bits & Pieces

Hello! The weekend completely flew by me, so I did not update on Sunday like I try to do. My little sister turned 26 on Sunday so we had brunch at my parents house that was absolutely amazing.

Here are some photos for ya!

It's late, but #winter finally arrived to #reykjavik #iceland

Office view. Or no view.
Winter decided to visit us here in Reykjavík for 2 days last week. It left as soon as it came. This has been the strangest winter I have ever experienced.

Friday = pizza!
Every other Friday night, when the girls are home, we make pizza. Karítas loves to help out and puts the toppings on the pizza for her and her sister.

#crochet #blanket #afghan i love how it looks on her bed. And the fact that it is big enough for her to enjoy for a very long time
Karítas’s bed made with her wave blanket. I love it.

#rainbow #crochet #socks
I started a crocheted sock! One down, one to go. Pictures to follow when I finish the second one.

Confirmation photo @elmarfreyr @joigudlaugs
My confirmation photo. This was 20 years ago, thank you very much!

January 2011 SAL
And surprise! I have a stitching finish. I decided to start UFO Tuesdays back again at my Icelandic stitching group since most of us are doing much more knitting and/or crochet these days than stitching. So some of us are dedicating Tuesdays to working on our very neglected UFO’s. I finished this cute freebie from TraLaLa into a pincushion last night. Cute, isn’t it?

Bits ‘n Pieces, on a Wednesday

The past week was spent almost completely in bed. I got sick on Monday at work and when I got home around five, I had a temp of 39°C. My fever went up to 40,6°C on Tuesday so I went to the doctor. Strep throat, again. I got my meds and was finally feeling slightly human again on Friday.
My cousin Bjarki, who has rented a room in my flat for the past 2 and a half years moved out this weekend so I spent the weekend moving the girls into new bedrooms and myself from the living room (where I used to sleep for the past year) to my own bedroom. Thanks to my parents for their endless, amazing help! I can’t thank them enough. Pictures will come when the rooms are ready. The living room is also getting a slight make over.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of the sick week.

Sickness, #crochet and Boardwalk Empire
When I wasn’t passed out due to the fever, I was doing crochet and watching Boardwalk Empire. I love those shows!

It now measures 114 cm wide and 100 cm long. #crochet #blanket #brown #pink #white #gray
The blanket for Karítas now measures about 100cm in length. Woo!

Skype happiness❤i miss her!
Karítas is currently traveling with her dad and his girlfriend. We do talk on Skype. I miss her terribly, she will thankfully be home on Sunday.

#christmas #wreath from my mom
My mom gave me this pretty wreath and I hung it on my front door.

I stitched this piece years ago by my daughters request. #crossstitch #fairy #beads #dmc
Stitched this one years ago for Sumarrós. Petal Fairy by Mirabilia.

#mom ❤
Mom! She is the best!

Crazy #sun
Sunday was very dark and gloomy, until the sun broke out for about an hour or so. It was very low so the brightness was breathtaking.

So how was your week?

Well Hello there!

Long long time! This summer has flown by. I went to Denmark with my girls for 3 weeks (pictures here), my office has moved and the workload has been absolutely crazy. I also went to Denmark (again) for my birthday weekend to see my favorite band, Arcade Fire, in concert on my birthday and it was just absolutely the best weekend ever! I was with my best friends in my favorite city and had a blast the whole time!

I have off course been knitting up a storm so here are some of my most recent finishes.

First of all. I was asked to test knit an Icelandic translation of Stephen West’s Akimbo for publication by Knitting Iceland. Stephen came here in July for a knitting tour and some classes and now Knitting Iceland is publishing some of his gorgeous designs in Icelandic. Here is my version of Akimbo, modeled by my beautiful daughter Sumarrós.

Pattern: Akimbo by Stephen West
Yarn: Kambgarn in 9640 (blue) and 9653 (orange/brown)
Needle: 3.5mm

While in Denmark I knitted this beautiful shawl out of some rainbow yarn. I love yarn that looks like the rainbow and I had this skein of Evilla for quite some time, just couldn’t decide on a design that I wanted to knit. But I finally found one that I really wanted to knit and started it just 2 days before leaving on my vacation and finished it in 8 days or so. It was a super fun knit!

Needles: 3.5mm
Yarn: Evilla Artyarn 8/2

I also have two more finishes already, but I need to wash and block those before I can share pictures. Right now I have a sweater for a friend on the needles, and a shawl for my grandmothers 80th birthday that is coming up next month. I also have some commission stitching to get done so there will be plenty of things to share in the coming weeks/months.
